During the City Council meeting on February 20, City Council approved two honorary street naming resolutions including the honorary naming of the intersection of Gadsen Street and Washington Street to “Zion Baptist Church Square” and the honorary naming of the 800 to 1100 blocks of Washington Street to “Columbia’s Historic Black Business District”. Members of Zion Baptist Church and descendants of black businesses owners from the 800 to 1100 blocks were in attendance.

During the presentation portion of the meeting, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, City Council and City Manager Teresa Wilson recognized Columbia-Richland Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins for 45 years of service by presenting him with a shield and plasma-cut metal wall art both decorated with the Columbia-Richland Fire department logo, City emblem, his name and a message saying “45 years of service”.

Mayor Daniel Rickenmann also presented a check from the Mayor’s Campaign Against Breast Cancer for $18,000 to the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation for the Bosom Buddies Fund to assist women with post-mastectomy bras and other support materials. This money was raised from several fundraising activities in October, 2023 including the annual Isabel Law Breast Cancer Breakfast, a percent night at Texas Roadhouse and a t-shirt sale.
