The Columbia Police Department Foundation & Columbia Parks & Recreation Foundation to Hold 3rd Annual Parks & Pedals Bicycle Event

The Columbia Police Foundation and the Columbia Parks & Recreation Foundation have partnered with Walmart to hold the third annual Police, Parks & Pedals Community Bicycle Initiative and rally event at Rosewood Park on Saturday, May 18 beginning at 11:30 am. May is National Bicycle Safety Month.

The Foundations, through their partnership with Walmart, will provide new bicycles and helmets at the event to selected students from South Kilbourne Elementary School and Hand Middle School. The event will conclude with a community bicycle rally, and then students will be treated to free ice cream from the Columbia Police Department’s ice cream truck.

Attending the event will be Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, Columbia Police Chief William Holbrook, Columbia District Three City Councilman Will Brennan, Columbia Assistant City Manager Henry Simons, Richland School District 1 Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon, Principal Derrick M. Thierse of South Kilbourne Elementary School and Principal Patrice Green of Hand Middle School, as well as representatives of Walmart.

  • 11:30 am – Speakers recognize importance of police, community, school and business partnerships
  • 11:45 am – Presentation of new bicycles to South Kilbourne Elementary School and Hand Middle School students
  • 12:00 pm – Community bicycle ride/rally
