With the help of multiple departments, the Solid Waste Division has been extremely fortunate this year to be adequately staffed and have the proper equipment to maintain weekly yard trash service.
Normally, the Division experiences delayed collections due to higher volumes of trash in late fall and early winter. The Division likes to call this time of year “leaf season”. During this year’s leaf season, Solid Waste has been working 60 hours per week since Thanksgiving to keep up with the collection.
The tireless efforts of Solid Waste staff have kept Columbia beautiful. The division was also able to provide an added service due to the support of purchasing new equipment. Residents have the opportunity to drop off bagged leaves in the City’s new roll-off dumpsters that are being moved weekly to different City parks. This alternative service will be provided through the end of January to residents. The Division is proud to serve the citizens of Columbia with high-quality and expanded services.
