WHAT: The City of Columbia Economic Development Office and The Main Street District invite the media and community to celebrate the opening of Sunrise Café on Main Street. Sunrise Café, opened by military veteran, Johnny Davis, serves Southern cooking from 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., including serving breakfast all day.
WHY: Johnny Davis has given unsheltered citizens a chance to set small goals toward independent living by giving them a job at the café. As a formerly unsheltered citizen himself, Davis believes that anyone can come out of a hard situation and make themselves better if they have the desire and they’re given the chance. In addition to giving his employees that are unsheltered a paycheck, he also provides them with a meal and words of wisdom and encouragement.
WHO: Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, Columbia Economic Development staff, Main Street District staff and Sunrise Café staff.
