Mayor Pro-Tem Will Brennan and the Central Midlands Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging held a ribbon cutting to usher in their new location on September 13, 2024. Mayor Pro-Tem Brennan was joined by Connie Munn, Director of the South Carolina Department of Aging, to make remarks during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“Central Midlands Council of Governments is proud to partner with the South Carolina Department on Aging to provide services to our seniors in the midlands of South Carolina,” Mayor Pro-Tem Brennan said. “As the Area Agency on Aging we are able to do the vital work of supporting this important section of or population.”
Mayor Pro-Tem Brennan serves as the Chairman of the Central Midland Council of Governments and was elected into the position on July 1, 2023. Previously, he served as the Vice-Chair since 2001 and was appointed to the Central Midlands Council of Governments in 2020.
The new location for the Area Agency on Aging is located at 220 Stoneridge Drive Suite 350 Columbia, SC 29210. The open house was attended by representatives from the City of Columbia, Richland County, Lexington County and community partners.

CMCOG has supported local governments in the region since 1969 and was designated as the Area Agency on Aging in 1976.
Central Midlands Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging (AAA) plans programs and services for the growing population of seniors in Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry, and Richland Counties. The AAA coordinates and offers a variety of services that support the well-being of seniors and individuals with disabilities, including:
- The Family Caregiver Support Program, which provides respite to caregivers, and Seniors Raising Children, assisting seniors raising their grandchildren
- The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), which offers unbiased Medicare counseling and outreach
- Information, Referral, and Assistance, to help seniors and the disabled population access the most appropriate community resources available for physical and mental health needs
- Assessments for in-home services such as home-delivered meals, homemaker, personal care, transportation, and access to local wellness centers
- The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, which advocates, mediates, and investigates complaints affecting residents in long-term care facilities
- Education on advance directives
- Legal services referrals
The agency contracts with local providers for the delivery of some services: Fairfield County Council on Aging, Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission, Newberry County Council on Aging, and Senior Resources in Richland County.
