Mayor Steve Benjamin Announces First Direct Payments to Begin for Participants in Columbia’s CLIMB Guaranteed Income Pilot Program

WHAT: Mayor Steve Benjamin joins local CLIMB guaranteed income pilot program partners to announce first direct $500 payments to fathers participating in the year-long program will activate on Tuesday, September 14.

Mayor Steve Benjamin has joined mayors across the country to advocate for a guaranteed income—direct, recurring payments—that uplifts all of our communities, building a resilient, just America. Columbia was one of a group of ten initial pilot cities working under guidance from national organization Mayors for a Guaranteed Income to launch guaranteed income pilot programs.

Additional CLIMB partners include fiscal agent Central Carolina Community Foundation, Columbia-based Dream Team Consulting, Midlands Fatherhood Coalition, SC Thrive, national African-American owned fintech company MoCaFi and Ignite Cities.
