Yesterday, Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann and District I Councilwoman Tina N. Herbert announced the launch of a month-long community clean-up initiative called “Columbia Clean-Up,” at a press conference at Hyatt Park, 950 Jackson Ave. Throughout the month of April, the City of Columbia’s Solid Waste department will place dumpsters along collection routes in a Council District.

“Cleaning up Columbia one neighborhood at a time, one street at a time, puts pride back in our neighborhoods,” Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann said. “We get 15 million visitors in Columbia and they ride throughout all our communities and every gateway. We want them to see who we truly are, the shining star in the middle of the state that is our capital city.”

The first week of collections will focus on District 1 from Friday, March 31st – Thursday, April 6th. Below are the approved location of dumpsters for the following week.

Fire Station 16 | 121 Lake Murray Blvd.

Greenview Park | 6700 David St.

Hyatt Park | 950 Jackson Ave.

NOMA Gardens | 2714 River Dr.

Marshall Park | 2905 Lincoln St.

Riverfront Park | 300 Laurel St.

“I like the clean-ups because you get to know neighbors more,” District 1 Councilwoman Tina N. Herbert said. “It makes you feel better and I think it encourages others to do more and then you’ll start competing with each other. The more we do I think is contagious, so I encourage everyone to participate in them.”

The City of Columbia encourages neighborhoods and districts to help beautify their communities and protect our environment by disposing yard debris, bulky items and unwanted materials from the streets and lots throughout the area. Please refrain from putting trash, electronic or hazardous materials into the dumpsters. If you have any questions on what materials are accepted in the dumpsters or other general information about Columbia Clean-Up, please contact Solid Waste at (803) 545-3800 or e-mail [email protected].
