City of Columbia’s 45th Annual Veterans Day Parade On This Friday!

By November 8, 2023No Comments

The City of Columbia is proud to host the 45th Annual Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 10th.  The Veterans Day Parade, one of the largest in the Southeast, welcomes over 79 parade entrants who will all join together to honor our veterans and their service to our country.

Participants include the Fort Jackson 282nd Army Band, over 300 Basic Training Soldiers from Fort Jackson, the South Carolina National Guard, numerous high school marching bands, military support organizations and first responders, and local politicians.

The Vietnam Veterans are the Grand Marshals as we honor their service and sacrifice and recognize the 50th Anniversary of the US Troop Withdrawal from Vietnam in March 1973. We are a great American Defense Community and have tremendous pride for and appreciation of all our veterans who bravely served our country protecting our freedoms.  The parade is a great opportunity to say thank you to our veterans for your service and thank your spouses and families for their support and sacrifice as well.

WIS TV’s anchor and military champion, Judi Gatson, will serve as the parade’s mistress of ceremonies as it is broadcast live on WIS.  The parade highlights that as a community, we are united for veterans and we support their service and that of their families.

Organized by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, the parade will begin at 11:00am at the intersection of Sumter and Laurel streets, and travel southbound on Sumter Street ending at Pendleton Street near the State House.
