City of Columbia Urges Residents to Prepare for Potential Severe Weather on Monday, March 16th

By March 15, 2026No Comments

The City of Columbia is urging residents to take precautions as severe weather is expected to impact the area on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Forecasts indicate a significant weather threat beginning in the morning. Residents should expect windy conditions throughout the day, with winds of 20–30 mph and gusts reaching up to 40 mph. In addition, a line of thunderstorms is expected to move through the area between 10 a.m. and noon.

Due to the potential for strong wind gusts and severe weather, residents are encouraged to take the following safety precautions:

  • Secure any loose outdoor materials, furniture, or structures. Bring inside any unsecured items that could be blown away and cause damage to property or pose a safety hazard.
  • Be aware that strong winds may result in downed trees, power lines, flying debris, and structural damage, which could lead to power outages, transportation disruptions, and potential injuries.

Residents are reminded to stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.

If trees are down in the public right-of-way or blocking roadways, please contact the City of Columbia Forestry Division at (803) 545-3860. After 5:00 p.m., residents should call the Customer Care Center at (803) 545-3300.

To report power outages or downed power lines, contact Dominion Energy at (888) 333-4465.

City leadership will continue to monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as needed. Residents are encouraged to follow local news and weather outlets for the latest forecasts.

Additional updates will also be posted on the City of Columbia’s website at www.ColumbiaSC.gov.
