 ABOUT CODE ENFORCEMENT

The Code Enforcement Division enforces various local ordinances related to property maintenance and nuisances on all properties in the city of Columbia. This is done to ensure a healthy and safe environment in order to provide a high quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors. In addition, the city has adopted the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC).

The IPMC was designed to help code officials recognize the need for a modern, up-to-date property maintenance code governing the maintenance of existing buildings. Their most recent edition was designed to meet this need through model code regulations that contain clear and specific property maintenance requirements which require property improvement provisions.
