The City of Columbia is thrilled to announce phase one Williams Street Extension project today, August 20, that will further expand access to our riverfront and improve our riverfront gateways. This press conference will take place at 1115 Gist St., at 1:30 p.m.
Phase one of the project includes the construction of approximately 4,700 feet of new and improved roadway, 4,700 feet of new sidewalks, 3 electric car charging stations, two bike share stations, and other related infrastructure needed to support the roadway.
Objectives of the Williams Street Extension project include:
- Expanding public river access
- Spurring economic development
- Improving safety and connectivity
- Enhancing outdoor recreational opportunities
- Strengthening pride and sense of community in our City
