City Holds Successful Go Red Columbia Event

The City of Columbia held their annual Go Red Columbia Community Photo Op to raise awareness for women affected by heart disease on February 2, 2024, National Wear Red Day. Over 100 people attended the ceremony and participated in free health screen that were offered to city employees and the public.

 

The event began with a press conference with remarks from Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, City Manager Teresa Wilson, Crystal Kirkland, the Executive Director of the American Heart Association, and heart transplant survivor Anjellica Davis. During the press conference, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann presented Crystal Kirkland with an American Heart Month Proclamation. City Manager Teresa Wilson shared her own personal story regarding heart health. To close out the press conference, the community came together to take a photo in support of all women affected by heart disease.

 

The event included several activities for attendees to enjoy. Heart health information from the Public Relations, Media and Marketing Department were provided to citizens who participated in the heart health awareness initiative. The information included details about the City’s first “Jump Start Your Heart Day Party”, which has been scheduled for Saturday, February 10 from 11am-2pm at the Drew Wellness Center (flyer below). Attendees were also invited to pose at a selfie station that included heart awareness props. Following the event, Eau Claire Cooperative Health provided free health screenings in the lobby on the first floor of City Hall for all attendees.
