During the presentation portion of the City Council meeting, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann presented four proclamations.

The National Bike Month and Bicycle Safety Month Proclamation was presented to recognize May 2023 as National Bike Month and Bicycle Safety Month; May 7, 2023 as National Ride a Bike Day; the week of May 15-21 as Bike to Work Week; and May 19, 2023 as Bike to Work Day. The City of Columbia encourages all who support bicycling to participate in the planned events and encourages all road users to share the road safely with bicyclists.

The National Historic Preservation Month Proclamation was presented to recognize May 2023 as the 50-year anniversary of National Preservation Month and to celebrate the importance of the role of history in our lives.

The Small Business Week 2023 Proclamation was presented to proclaim the week of April 30-May 6, 2023 as Small Business Week. For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

A surprise proclamation was presented to our City Clerk, Erika D. Moore Hammond and our Assistant City Clerk Levanie Summerville to recognize the week of April 30 through May 6, 2023 as Professional Municipal Clerks Week and further extend our appreciation to all Professional Municipal Clerks for the vital services they perform and their dedication to the communities they represent.

Later in the meeting, City Council approved several items on the consent agenda that allow the City to continue to invest in equipment, technology, training, and opportunities that can provide better service.

City Council also approved an item on the consent agenda that approved a new Professional Services Agreement for the Columbia Race and Equity Assessment Project (Item #5). Working with the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council will help fill in the gaps in our communities.

Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann also shared a brief video recap of some of the items discussed at the City Council meeting. View the recap here: https://youtu.be/oWdrWjZzTto
