BOPs stands for “Black Owned Products” and offers a variety of products such as clothing, personal care, cleaning products, and more – all from black-owned companies.

Ayesha Driggers, Interim Director for the City of Columbia’s Office of Business Opportunities says “the concept will be amazing” and that they are excited to see the growth and expansion of BOPs.

Owner, Layla Sewell won a pitch competition with Benedict College’s creative entrepreneurs, leading her to open the store. Sewell says the mission of BOPs is to “create a tangible shopping experience where black businesses are supported and where black people are celebrated.”

Mayor Daniel Rickenmann was excited to highlight the fact that BOPs is another small, woman-owned shop that has recently opened in the city. “We continue to push in efforts to grow our small businesses because they are the ones that are going to grow with us, who are going to invest in your community, live and breathe in our community.
