During the City Council meeting, City Council passed an item on the consent agenda to approve a new contract for Saluda River and Riverwalk access improvements. This will help develop the City of Columbia Saluda River Canoe and Kayak Access Point on the Saluda Riverwalk. The new river access point will serve non-motorized boaters, increase attraction and accessibility for canoers/kayakers, and enhance safety/water recreation on the Saluda River. This project will also provide a new access trail with a connection to the existing Saluda Riverwalk trail. Components include an ADA-compliant canoe/kayak ramp, shade structures, riverside seating, step updates, educational/erosion control amenities, and an improved path for water recreation. The current total secured budget is $125,000.00 which was funded through a SCPRT grant of $100,000.00 and a required match of $25,000.00.

Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann also shared a brief video recap of some of the items discussed at the City Council meeting. View the recap here: https://youtu.be/qg7chgaMTVA
