City of Columbia and Dominion Energy South Carolina Announce a Partnership to Expand Public Access Along Saluda River

The City of Columbia and Dominion Energy South Carolina announced an agreement between both parties to enter into a license agreement that will expand more than 200 acres of public river access along the Saluda Greenway.

“Columbia is home to three amazing rivers that should be utilized, accessed, and enjoyed,” said Mayor Daniel Rickenmann. “This partnership marks a new era of opening up access to our city’s rivers. Thanks to the team at Dominion, and Keller Kissam in particular, for their work to make Columbia a better place to be. This land will pave the way to create spaces for our families to enjoy and features that tourists will flock to.”

The agreement signifies a committed approach by the City of Columbia, Dominion Energy and other Midlands river partners to further expand connectivity, public access and collaboration along the Saluda River.

“Whether it’s providing land for the nationally recognized Riverbanks Zoo or supporting fishing and other recreational opportunities, we are helping to make the Saluda River more accessible for the communities we serve,” said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “We are fortunate to have such a beautiful natural resource running through the Midlands and are excited for people to discover even more of it in the years to come.”

Potential future access may include Greenway connectivity for continuous trails stretching from downtown Columbia to Saluda Shoals Park, outdoor exercise stations along trails, hammocks for relaxed riverfront enjoyment and leisure, and increased public access points for river recreation.
