Spooktacular Halloween Carnival | 40th Annual Veterans Parade
City of Columbia’s “Spooktacular Halloween Carnival”
Calling all ghosts, ghouls and goblins! Trick or treat with the City of Columbia at the “Spooktacular Halloween Carnival” on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Dutch Square Mall.
The year’s event will feature Escapology’s “Hot Seat,” inflatables, carnival games, karaoke, trivia, exhibitors, and more!
WHAT: “Spooktacular Halloween Carnival”
WHERE: Dutch Square, 421 Bush River Road
WHEN: 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31
AGES: 6 and up (Children must be accompanied by an adult.)
NOTE: The food court will be open for guests to purchase refreshments.

City of Columbia’s 40th Annual Veterans Day Parade
The City of Columbia’s 40th Annual Veterans Day Parade will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department announced.
The Veterans Day Parade, known as one of the Southeast’s largest Veterans Day parades, will begin at 11 a.m. from the intersection of Sumter and Laurel streets, and travel southbound on Sumter Street ending at Pendleton Street near the State House.
This year’s grand marshals will be former Prisoner of War Veterans.
The Veterans Day Parade is sponsored by the City of Columbia and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina.

Note: Military-affiliated organizations, high school bands, JROTC programs, non-profits and community groups interested in participating in the parade can submit an application to Columbia Parks & Recreation Department (Attn: Kim Mitchell), 1111 Recreation Drive, Columbia, SC 29201.
The last day to apply is Friday, Oct. 12, 2018.
Winners Announced for Passport to Columbia's Parks Challenge

Five winners were selected as grand prize winners in the Passport to Columbia's Parks Challenge held during the month of July to celebrate Park & Recreation Month, the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department announced.
Winners of the 2018 Passport to Columbia's Parks Challenge are:
- Andrea Evans-Wolfe
- Diane Betz
- Ariel McMillan
- Ernest Stroman
- Tina Marie Devlin
The department invited citizens to explore various City parks through a citywide Passport Challenge, which asked participants to answer a series of questions related to the features or history of a park or facility in the City.
Completed passports were entered into a drawing for prizes ranging from fitness equipment, lunch kits and more.
