(COCILG)

The City of Columbia Institute of Local Government (COCILG) Internship program provides both undergraduate and graduate level students the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of local government and how it operates.

This program is tailored to students who are seeking nonacademic and academic credit, fulfilling internship requirements, or simply wishing to gain experience working in public service, the community, and the governmental arena.

We offer Internships for spring, summer, and fall semesters.

Responsibilities

COCILG Interns will perform a variety of tasks that may include policy research and development, program development, drafting memorandums and briefing materials, assisting with special projects, engaging community stakeholders and City staff, outreach and education, administrative tasks, and research and analysis.  Interns work closely with city leadership and their departmental supervisors. City of Columbia’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Selected students will be asked to dedicate at minimum fifteen hours per week to the internship program. Professional and appropriate attire is required for all interns.
