The locally owned neighborhood restaurant continues to welcome guests for walk-in lunch and reservation-only dinner
(Columbia, SC) – More than 100 community leaders, neighbors and elected officials gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Melrose Market, Columbia’s newest full-service neighborhood restaurant, alongside City of Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann. Guests remained after the ceremony for a community toast celebrating the restaurant’s opening and the continued revitalization of the Gervais Street corridor.
“Locally owned businesses like Melrose Market strengthen our neighborhoods by creating places where people gather, connect and invest in their community,” said City of Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann. “We’re excited to celebrate another great addition to Columbia’s growing dining scene.”
Mayor Daniel Rickenmann was joined by Columbia City Councilmen Peter Brown and Sam Johnson, City Manager Teresa Wilson, Richland County Councilwoman Allison Terracio, Forest Acres City Councilman Ryan Newton, neighborhood leaders and community partners for the celebration. Standing alongside them for the ribbon cutting were owner and managing partner Chad Elsey, business partner Jeb Babcock and the Melrose Market team.
“This has been years in the making, so standing here surrounded by our neighbors, community leaders and the team who brought this vision to life is incredibly meaningful,” said Elsey. “We’ve heard from so many neighbors who have told us they’ve waited years for a restaurant like this. To finally open our doors and celebrate this moment with them is something we’ll never forget.”
The celebration also recognized the team behind Melrose Market, including Babcock along with the restaurant’s leadership team — General Manager Kaitlin Broome McCrackin, Executive Chef Josh Rogerson, Sous Chef Alex Runyan, Bar Manager Eboni Page and Front of House Manager Caroline Brigman.
Since opening to the public earlier this month, Melrose Market has welcomed a steady stream of guests eager to experience its distinctive approach to neighborhood dining.
