What: The City of Columbia, in collaboration with Core Spaces, Richland County, and the Main Street District, is proud to announce a major step forward in downtown revitalization. The redevelopment of 1401 Main Street into the new Municipal Complex reflects the City’s commitment to improving accessibility, enhancing operational efficiency, and providing residents with a centralized location for key municipal services.

This announcement serves as a catalyst for transformational change, not only shaping the vibrancy and walkability of Columbia’s downtown core, but also advancing strategic economic development efforts across the entire city.

Adjacent to the new complex, Core Spaces will bring a new mixed-use development to the heart of the Main Street District. With a focus on innovative design and hospitality-driven management, the project will introduce modern housing and retail opportunities that further energize the downtown experience and support continued economic growth.

Together, the Municipal Complex and Core Spaces’ newest downtown development represent a coordinated, forward-thinking approach to city planning and development. These projects work hand in hand to enhance public service delivery, attract private investment, and elevate the downtown experience. This joint effort marks one of the most significant economic investments on Main Street in years, positioning Columbia for continued growth and long-term success.

Following the announcement, the public is encouraged to explore renderings of both the Municipal Complex and the Core Spaces’ development to gain a deeper understanding of these visionary transformative spaces. Food trucks will also be on-site during the event, with food and refreshments available for purchase, offering a taste of the vibrancy and culinary potential that future development could bring to this key corridor in the Main Street District.
