Who: City of Columbia, Richland County and Cola Town Bike Collective
What: A family-friendly bike ride and event to celebrate continued investment in Columbia’s bike and pedestrian infrastructure as well as the finished bike lanes on South Main Street. This milestone event will spotlight recent and upcoming projects aimed at making streets more accessible for all users. The City of Columbia and Richland County are committed to improving safety, accessibility, and sustainability through a growing network of bike and pedestrian infrastructure. This community ride aims to bring together City leaders and residents to celebrate progress, build momentum, and ensure future projects meet the needs of our community.
The South Main Capital District area plan, adopted in 2017 was a joint effort between the City of Columbia, the University of South Carolina, and the State of South Carolina, and was the basis for the design of the new streetscape. The separated bicycle facility (also called a cycle track) on South Main is the first one to be installed in the City.
