Raising Awareness: The City’s Campaigns for Domestic Violence & Breast Cancer

Sistercare Saturdays

The PR Department held “Sistercare Saturdays” on the following Saturdays: July 27, August 24, and September 7 from 10am-1pm at Soda City Market.

Participants were able to dunk Mayor Daniel Rickenmann and other local celebrities such as Sierra Artemus with WIS. Tickets for the dunk booth were $5 for three throws, $10 for seven throws and $30 for an instant dunk. There were also multiple raffle drawing each Saturday featuring supporting organizations/businesses who partnered with us to raise funds for Sistercare. There were also information booths from Sistercare and local safety partners.

All proceeds raised from the events went to Sistercare.

City of Columbia Public Relations, Media and Marketing Department Partners with Sistercare for Second Annual Toiletry Drive

From July 1, 2024- October 5, 2024 the PR department spearheaded a toiletry drive benefiting Sistercare.

The donation list included:

  1. Facial wipes
  2. Deodorant
  3. Liquid hand soap
  4. Face cloths/towels
  5. Masks
  6. Feminine hygiene products
  7. Body wash
  8. Diapers

The public was able to drop off at various locations around the city including city buildings, small businesses, and even at the Mayor’s Walk Against Domestic Violence.

Thanks to our amazing community, we collected over 11,000 toiletry items to be donated to Sistercare!

City Holds 18th Annual Mayor’s Walk Against Domestic Violence

On Saturday, October 5, 2024 the City of Columbia Public Relations, Media and Marketing Department along with City officials hosted the 2024 Mayor’s Walk Against Domestic Violence. The event also included a dunk tank fundraiser to raise funds for Sistercare and toiletry collections to also be donated to Sistercare.

This year’s walk had 12 exhibitors to share their resources, as well as had over 1,000 registrants. The City would like to thank all of the speakers, exhibitors, and participants in this year’s walk.

Breast Cancer Awareness

First City of Columbia Municipal Court Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Municipal Court staff raised $750 for the Lola Brown Foundation to fight for those searching for a cure.

Mayor’s Campaign Against Breast Cancer T-Shirt Sale

The PR Department promoted the breast cancer t-shirt sale by sending out a press release and flyer and also scheduling a media interview to speak about the t-shirts as well as the Isabel Law Breakfast.

 

Isabel Law Breakfast

The City of Columbia hosted the 2024 Isabel Law Breakfast on Friday, October 11 from 7:30am-9:30am. Tickets were $15 for a breakfast including grits, pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausage, and beverages.

All proceeds from this year’s campaign will help fund an innovative 3-D mammography imaging unit for the Prisma Health Parkridge campus.
