The City Council Meeting on October 18, 2022, began with several proclamations that highlighted several monthly observations including Domestic Violence Awareness Month, American Pharmacists Month, and Fire Prevention Month.
During the consent agenda, City Council approved various items to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Columbia. This included the continued funding for the Three Rivers Greenway project, the purchase of essential equipment for the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, studies involving the Shandon Rosewood drainage, and professional governmental affairs contracts for lobbying services, so we can continue to bring in state/federal dollars to enhance our communities.
Also during the consent agenda, City Council approved a new professional services agreement for project SD8450 – Stormwater Bond Program Management Service (Item #17). This project includes services to assist the City’s stormwater staff in all activities necessary to operate, maintain, improve, administer and provide stormwater management of the City’s stormwater system. It will also facilitate and integrate activities that benefit and improve watershed conditions across the City’s stormwater service area. In addition, this project includes services to assist the City and the administration of stormwater capital improvement projects (CIPs). In addition, City Council also approved Ordinance 2022-082 during the consent agenda (Item #18). This ordinance amends the 1998 Code of Ordinances of the City of Columbia which permits purveyors of cannabis products to post clear and conspicuous signage about the effects of cannabis products. The signage must detail how the products may cause a person to fail a workplace drug screening test and the signs must be equal to 50% of the size of the purveyor’s product signage.
