Under Armour has announced they will provide donations for the City’s Parks & Recreation Foundation, as well as tie-in publicity with the South Carolina Women’s Gamecocks Basketball Team. The Lady Gamecocks have just recently garnered $10,000 for our Foundation for making it to the final four, and with each win as they have advanced toward the title garnered more donations to support our Parks & Recreation Foundation mission to provide better access and opportunity for young people to play sports. Winning the national championship the donations totaled to $50,000 for our Parks and Recreation Foundation.

“We are grateful to Under Armour for such a generous donation to the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation. This contribution is a true testament to the continued relationship between the University of South Carolina and the City of Columbia. We are proud of Coach Staley’s leadership, as well as the determination and skill of her players, and we now look forward to collectively impacting our youth in Columbia communities in a profound way.” Assistant City Manager, Henry Simons.

Adding to their victory on the court, South Carolina and Under Armour are donating $50,000 to the City of Columbia Parks & Recreation Foundation – an organization dedicated to preserving, enriching, and sustaining cultural, environmental, and recreational facilities and programs across Columbia’s diverse communities. This donation will help the City of Columbia Parks & Recreation Foundation continue to increase access to sport through their facilities at parks and recreation centers.

“I want to thank Under Armour for providing such a generous donation to Columbia,” said Mayor Rickenmann. “I also want to congratulate the Lady Gamecocks again on winning the National Championship! Their victory is providing $50,000 for our city and is just another reason we are grateful to have Coach Staley in Columbia,” Mayor Daniel Rickenmann said.

A special thanks to Carey Rich for making the connection with Under Armour and UofSC. See link below that provides a quick video promotion from Under Armour. I have also included Flynn Burch, Director of Global Community Impact for Under Armour. Their generosity and collaboration with the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation is sincerely appreciated.

“We are thrilled that Under Armour and the University of South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team are donating to our organization to assist with funding the variety of programs we offer youth and adults as part of our ongoing commitment to provide new opportunities, moments of connection and skills development to our community,” City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Superintendent Carey Rich said.
