The backbone of any successful business is a capable workforce that can produce quality products and services in a timely and efficient manner. South Carolina is home to a ready trained workforce that is consistently ranked in the top 5 nationwide of productive state workforces, and has the 2nd lowest unionization rate in the U.S. Workforce training is supported the SC Technical College system and readySC, which provide well-trained employees to qualifying companies that invest in the state of South Carolina.

 

SC Department of Employment and Workforce helps match job seekers with employers quickly, efficiently, and effectively, providing a convenient location for employers to find work-eligible employees, tax information, and worker training resources.

 

readySC is one of the oldest and most experienced workforce training programs in the United States, and provides customized training for new and expanding businesses in South Carolina, often at little or no cost to qualifying companies.

 

SC Works is an online portal that ties together SCDEW with South Carolina's 12 regional Workforce Investment Boards and useful with promoting available jobs, searching for candidates, and reviewing job market trends.

 

Education


There are six major universities located in the Greater Columbia area which bring students and researchers from around the world to obtain and learn from these institutions

 

University of South Carolina-Columbia is the university's flagship campus. USC offers over 324 degree programs across 14 colleges and schools, and current enrollment is over 30,000 with 6,500 degrees awarded annually. Columbia is home to the Moore School of Business (one of the top ranked schools for its highly touted International MBA program) and the Innovista innovation district which supports advanced research in nanotechnology, health sciences, future fuels, environmental and information technologies.

 

Midlands Technical College offers a unique environment for business and education to co-locate on the 150 acre Enterprise Campus in the City of Columbia. This partnership between the college and the private sector provides an innovative space where work blends with education. With more than 15,000 credit students annually, MTC is the principal supplier of associate degree-level technical employees and health care professionals in the region.

 

Allen University has a distinguished history and is widely recognized for its development of African-Americans who have made significant achievements and contributions in various areas of specialization, both nationally and internationally.

 

Benedict College is an independent coeducational college and is one of the fastest growing of the 39 United Negro College Fund Schools. In addition to an increase in enrollment, Benedict has also seen an increase in average SAT scores, Honors College enrollee rates, capital giving dollars, and the number of research grants awarded.

 

Columbia College is a private, four-year, liberal arts college for women with a coeducational Evening College and Graduate School. The College has been ranked since 1994 by US News and World Report as one of the top ten regional liberal arts colleges in the South.

 

Columbia International University is a biblically based, private Christian institution committed to preparing men and women to know Christ and to make Him known. Founded in 1923, CIU is recognized as having one of the leading ministry training programs in the world.
